I still can't get over how much of an idiot I am. My Tartar escaped yesterday and I have been unable to find her. I keep looking at her enclosure and wondering how she slipped through, but she did. I have learned with this, never underestimate the smallest hole. This is only the second time a snake has ever escaped on me, the last time the snake was found the following day. I have laid out many blankets hoping she will make a home in there. I am also going to set up flour to see if there is any movement from her. She just ate a few days ago, so I doubt food traps will work yet. I keep trying to tell myself it's not my fault, but really, it is. Realistically I should have over a month to find her before she would die of starvation. So I will keep looking daily and hoping to see some movement from her with the flour giving me an idea where she is hiding. I want to stay positive knowing that most people find there escaped snakes, however this is much smaller than the ones people usually lose.
God do I feel shitty.

Hey, long time no blog...so here we go:

Quick update is about videos on youtube, New one will be out either today or Friday. NFL contest video will be coming out in the final week of July. It's looking like the Reptile contest will be expanding so all exotic pet owners get ready!!! The contest is expected to run from September 1st to September 30th although this could change but I will keep you posted!!! And as always a cool cash or prizes will can be won in both contests!

Youtube has been having issues with my channel, or I should say, my channel has been having issues with youtube. Whenever I try to change my channel over to the new style I get the dreaded 500 error, and so does anyone else trying to access it when it's turned to the new style.
They are working on it, but the deadline is looming :o(

As for the snakes:
First up Sandy is getting so big, should have Sand Boa Babies in just over another month!!!!
The Albinos are doing great only missing 1 meal between the two, I will also be upgrading the size of their meals next week!
Steve is finally eating regularly for me!!! It only took nearly a couple years :oP
No luck getting the Mojave Ball Python to eat yet, it's been over 4 months and force feeding is looking possible if something does not change soon. Today however I will be offering her Quail for the first time, so hopefully that does the trick.
The Lesser is going through a wicked growth spirt right now! Hard to believe the lesser and mojave are the same age!
The rosy boa is starting to show some of her strength now as she likes to tightly coil around me, making it almost impossible to put her back in her enclosure. She has only missed one meal for me since March due to a shed!
Caesar is starting to lose a lot of his color, but you can still tell very easily he's a pastel. He is doing well and will hopefully be breeding for me at the beginning of 2010.
The Woma has such a personality! A really fun snake! She is growing big, well over 3 feet now. I would love to breed these one day!
Finally is the Tartar, she is looking bigger and bigger every day, she was only about 6" when I got her, but now she is about 8". I know it does not sound like much, but with snakes this size, it is! She has only missed 1 meal for me and is doing great!

I had the Woma out for quite a while today, an hour this morning and a couple hours this evening. She really seemed to enjoy it. I also weighed and measured her today. She has gained about 40 grams and 2 inches in about a month! Will be glad once she is full grown :o)

She has such a personality on her! I would like to get into breeding these one day down the road as they blow away any other snake on alertness. Although she is not very alert when she is first waking up, kinda funny to watch her all groggy. Reminds me of me waking up, haha.

On another note I've been debating on getting a pair of Albino Ball Pythons instead of the Adult Female Pinstripe. Both will be similar in price, but I have really been eying the Albinos lately and they seem to sell fast everywhere. Would be a couple years atleast before getting to breed them. But we will see what happens.

Alright, bout time for an update!

First up is the Kenyan Sand Boa's. Sandy is prego! I still have her and Steve together but will be separating them with the arrival of my new rack next Tuesday. She has looked like she is going to shed for the past few weeks which is much longer than she usually lasts opaque so most likely her post ovulation shed! So babies should be popping out around July :o)

Next on the new snakes list is a female Tartar Sand Boa. She has already been purchased and will be shipped to me once she has eaten 4 meals (she's only a couple weeks old right now). So she will be estimated to be shipped in early June! Tartar's are similar to Kenyans except they grow a little large (especially females) and tend to be more active.

Right around the time the Tartar arrives I will be just about ready to order my Pinstripe Female Ball Python for Caesar, my Jungle Pastel. They should produce some nice Lemonblasts for next year.

So that's about it for new snakes. Several new videos will be out over the next month hopefully to include the Tartar, Sandy's pregnancy, a new and long overdue Talking with Nixie, Shock (the other cat), and plus an update on the fish tank with new fish and filters and other fun stuff :oP

I thought it was funny seeing all the pussies whining about Blaze eating, or really any of the other snakes. But this Swine Flu is just to much. Going into work today it is plastered all over the paper, partly because there has been a confirmed case in our county. But still it's a friggin flu! So I go read our "communication clipboard" at work which gives us any important updates about our jobs. 3 Pages worth of crap on this Flu at my work *shaking head*. On top of that they now want us to wash our hands every 15-20 minutes...a little insane if you ask me. To those of you that don't know, I'm a cashier at a convenience store.
What's your take on this flu? Are you scared? Do you think there is way to much over reaction? How many people die from the common flu everyday? Maybe I am less worried than I should be, but then again maybe not.

So from my last blog you can tell I got a Rosy Boa this past week. But that's just the start of the new additions. Tomorrow I have a female Mojave Ball Python and a male Lesser Ball Python coming. They will be babies but definitely a breeding project for the future :o)

Speaking of breeding...I decided to give my Sand Boa's a shot at it and it did not take long. Within 10 minutes of being placed together they started going at it (in the good way)! I will be keeping them together for about 2 months or so just to make they have plenty of chances. For about the last 36 hours or so they have had there tales locked when I went to check on them. So hopefully in about 4 months or so there will be babies. I am expecting all Anerys Het for Snow. I will be keeping all the females and the males will be for sale...but that's down the road. I'm also looking into ordering a sub adult/adult female pinstripe ball python in late spring/early summer. She will pair up with my Pastel for hopefully some nice LemonBlasts early next year. The next snake rack has already been ordered. Should be here in late April/early May.

Now as for the reptile contest, I'm quite disapointed in it's lack of entries thus far. Hopefully it rebounds in the 2nd half of March as there is only 2 weeks left to enter.

This is going to be a little different than a lot of my posts. I am going to sound a little pissed off...and that's because I am.

So to start my internet has been on the fritz the past couple weeks and decided to shit the bed on me when expecting a shipment from fed ex which is to be my new snake. And fed-ex being the dipshits they are decided to bring it to the wrong door and just leave it without even knocking on a door despite it being "signature required". So the girl that sold me the snake called saying it was showing delivered despite it not being delivered. So after calling Fed-Ex and giving them an ass reaming they finally got it to the right place. The snake was a little cold but alright. Back to the internet problem. So Time Warner Cable had to come for a 2nd time in a week to replace the modem, but we had to wait 2 days for the service call...grrr. But really pisses me off is that I told the guy who did the 1st service call that it was the modem, but insisted the problem was the old wiring. Now I have been trying to purchase a pair of Ball Pythons from BHB Reptiles (snakebytes) but thus far after 2 weeks I am still yet to be any closer. From ignored emails to delay after delay. If they don't get off their asses soon, I will go elsewhere. Not to mention they are yet to advertise for my contest which was promised. More bad news with the contest, it has lost 1 of it's judges as he has been suspended. Why? Getting caught up in that youtube drama crap. Hopefully your week has gone a bit smoother than mine. I'm surprised I have any hair left.

Seems like just yesterday I was all nervous thinking about what my first youtube video would be of. I debated and debated and finally decided on the cliche-ic "My Introduction" video. Once that video was out of the way the others only seemed to get easier and easier. As of last night, nearly 2 years after my first video, my channel officially has hit 3,000,000 total video views! Now 3 million may not seem like much to some or may seem like an insane amount to others, but to me it seems like an insane amount! So thanks to everyone who has viewed any of my videos and made that number attainable.

My final thoughts on the SuperBowl

First off lets start off by saying just over 24 hours away from the SuperBowl!!! It's incredible how excited I get despite neither of my teams being in it (as usual). I'm amazed how many people are rooting for Arizona. After the regular season was over you could have placed a $100 bet on Arizona making it to and winning the Superbowl and you would receive $4000. But who would have thought that then? But then again look at what a crazy season it has been. The Patriots hit 11 wins but yet fail to make the playoffs. 8-8 Chargers managed to make it however. The Dolphins managed to rebound making the playoffs despite only winning a single game last season! And who can forget the horrible refs this year. Despite the chargers only being at .500 prior to the playoffs, really they would be at 10-6 had there not been unquestionably terrible calls that ended up costing them 2 games with little or no time left.
But now about the SuperBowl itself: I am predicting the final to be 21-17 with the Steelers winning. But make no mistake, I will be routing for the Cards. The key will be, how many points does the Steelers DEFENSE come up with? That in itself I think will decide this game. I don't think neither offense will get much accomplished. The over/under at the moment is around 47 points which seems kind of high for this low scoring Pittsburgh offense and the little points allowed by the Pittsburgh defense. With the cardinals I think it is going to be big plays that will win it for them as I doubt they will get much accomplished at the line. So the under is where I would recommend your money go if you are going to bet on this one. Giving Arizona 7 points is a tough bet to make on either side.

Today is the day we final get our rabbit. We were going for a LionHead but learned that all the local breeders of them suck. Incredibly rude, or just ignoring our questions. So we decided to go for a Holland Lop instead as they have great personalities and the first breeder we contact was incredibly nice and actually listened to us!

Regardless of what kind of business you are in, if you have to talk to customers than make sure you are listening. Because that could be the final factor on if the sale goes through or not. Plus word of mouth advertising can hurt you just as much as it can help. If someone was to ask me where to get a lion head from I have plenty of place to not send them, and trust me, I would let them know.

Not to mention I am the kind of person that likes to stick with what works. I have had great success with LLLReptiles and ReptileGuru. Therefor I always look there first plus recommend them when people ask where to go for snakes.

So remember just because your having a bad day, taking it out on your customers can and in the end WILL kill your business.

Wow! Thanks to each and every one of you for subscribing and help support the youtube channel FartherAway420!
I have a lot planned for 2009 and with the gain of over 50 subscribers in the last week, I would say it's off to a good start!

Video's coming up shortly include the results of the Fireworks Legal VS. Illegal. I am going to feed the snakes tonight and if they are cooperative then I will make a video! If not then the fireworks video will be released first (on Sunday). Also coming up in just over a week will be the NFL SuperBowl contest. The prize will be $100! To enter you will need to make a video response naming who will win the Superbowl and what the total amount of points scored will be between the two teams. Prior to the divisional games today I am calling for the Ravens and Eagles to make it, but we will see. The entry video will be up after the last Confrence championship game Next Sunday (1/18).

The usual The Question video #10 will be out at some point later in the month as well.

With Spring comes new snakes as well. I had a chance to pick up a rescue an adult female Ball Python with a large tank for only $100. I figured pair her up with Caesar for later this year now that he is already reached breeding size (650+ grams!). However things did not go as planned and she was sold 2 days prior to when I reached the owner. So now what to pair him with? I was thinking maybe getting a Adult female spinner around Septemberish with the hopes of producing some lemonblasts.

Speaking of which Although Caesar was not sold to me as a Lemon Pastel, I have really been wondering lately as he lacks Orange and has a lot of yellow (especially under lights). So I think if it's not a lemonblast then it will be damn close!

Last but not least, the reptile contest for March is shaping up rather nicely. I have been lucky enough to have 3 people I asked on youtube to be judges accept. Plus another big channel has accepted to advertise for us! $200 at stake. I wish there was more I could do to raise the stakes, but we will see what kind of revenue it brings in (though it will be much under $200) and maybe I can up the stakes even higher for another future contest. I think this contest will really bring a lot of the reptile community together as there are so many reptile lovers on youtube! Much more than when I first started on youtube a couple years ago. Infact the first video I ever released "My Introduction" was released 2 years ago this month! That video is no longer up but some time this year I think I am going to release "flash back" videos (video's taken down by me due to lack of views a long time ago).I have about 50 video's up right now, but I have made just under 150 over the course of 2 years. This includes videos of ALL of the snakes on my channel including Blaze! So I'm sure when it's re-released it will do well.

Hey whats up everyone?
So today is my birthday and I hate it. I don't get depressed or anything but tacking another year on is not the most enjoyable thought. Well at least if it does not involve turning 18, 21, or 25(car insurance). But after 25 there is nothing. Sure you can say 65 for retirement, but that's only assuming you will be able to afford to retire at 65.
Not to mention that I can remember thinking as a kid " maybe they will find a way to prolong life longer before I die". But here I am 28 years into it and they still have not found anything yet, so that deadline is getting a lot closer then when I was that kid. Sorry to sound so grim, but I think many have that exact thought when they are younger and older.
I wish I could be one of those people that gets excited about their birthday regardless of what age they are turning, but for me that faded away after 21. And really the only reason I was excited about turning 19 or 20 was because it was another year closer to 21.
The irony however is that when I was 17-20 I drank like a fish (5-7 bottles of hard stuff a night). But now that I turned 21 I kinda lost interest in it and by the age of 23 was done with drinking all together. A great example on why they should lower the drinking age in the United States.
So basically to sum it all up:
Birthdays 1-21=Good
Birthdays 22+ = bad

Well, my favorite day of the week is here again, SUNDAY!
And with Sunday brings us another great week of football!
There's a lot of good games on this week, not just to watch but to bet on as well.

Here's a few games I would suggest if anyone wants a shot at making some money. I have done excellent this year with my win percentage in the 70's.

Green Bay/Carolina Over 41 1/2
-3.5 Giants Over Washington
Giants/Washington Over 41
-1 Patriots Over Pittsburgh
Patriots/Pittsburgh Over 39 1/2
-3 Oakland Over Kansas City
+5 Atlanta Over Chargers

The games in bold are games that I feel VERY confident in winning. The others I still think I will win, but would not throw down as much money on. But we will see in the end as huge upset weeks have happened before, or more accurately several times each season. The trick is just to hope you are not betting a lot during the upset weeks. Earlier in the season I managed to build myself up to a couple hundred doing on $25 bets. However seeing the way the Broncos dominated the first few weeks and how crappy Kansas City was doing I figured that would be a sure bet, so I tried to double up . However Kansas City destroyed them in there best game of the year hands down. Oh well, if we knew for sure then it would not be betting.

First off, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

As for the update: The new rack system for the snakes should be arriving soon, as should another order from rodent pro! I have learned a new feeding technique and will try it with Steve to see if I can stop his stubbornness. If it works I will do a video on it. Also I will be doing another snake feeding video very soon (no later than the first week in December).

It was a crazy day at work as a seal managed to get washed up on the river side (which my work is next to. It's just a baby and was cool to watch. It took a few hours for the wardens to remove him without stressing him out.

First I need to vent (and I'm not talking about drinking a Coors light): Is it me or do the refs get more and more blind each year? Even with instant replays it's like they are watching a completely different game. With Monday nights game going well however it put me up for the week betting wise. But knowing I should have been more up if it wasn't for San Diego's 12th man (the ref), then I would have covered my spread. All of the laterals were legal so why take away the points if it does not matter regarding who will win? Oh well, when betting I know I need to expect the unexpected but seriously... The Chargers and the Steelers 11-10? I would have hated to be in Vegas that day.

But anyways other news in the NFL is that Green Bay is tied for first in their division. i think next year will be a great year for green bay as more time with Rodgers as the lead man will really make a difference for this team. With Favre doing so well this year as well it's looking very possible that Green Bay will be picking up a 2nd round draft pick. And I think the odds of Favre retiring at the end of this season is unlikely. The Jets got a great trade and next year I think it will pay off for the packers as well.

And finally, tomorrow I will be feeding all the snakes and plan on having a video up on Wednesday night!

Feeding the snakes 11/15

So last night I fed the snakes...or at least tried to anyways. Both of the Pythons ate no problem. It's incredible the strength Caesar has as I would hate to get struck by him now, let alone later. He nearly rips the tongs out of my hands when I am feeding him. The Woma Python on the other hand never strikes at her food. She will just casually stroll up to it and open her mouth.
Both of the Sand Boa's refused. Sandy is getting close to shedding and Steve is just stubborn to begin with when it comes to eating so it's not so bad.
New video will be out on Sunday. Still debating on what to do for the next The Question video. Was thinking of making it snake related where I have had so few snake videos out lately. Partly due to my snakes being stubborn when the camera is rolling. At worst I will have a new video of Caesar up this month but I am still trying to get Steve to eat outside of his enclosure. He stopped eating outside of it over 3 months ago. Due to substrate I have to have him in a closed box (with small holes of course) about a half an inch above his heat pad with the fuzzies. So there is no way to film that. But once Sandy has finished shedding I know she will be ready for a meal as it has been over 2 weeks since her last meal which is very long for her.

So most of you know me from youtube (FartherAway420) and I say "hello friends!"

To those of you who do not know me then here is the skinny on who I am:
My name is Jarred and I love animals! Especially snakes! Although I do also own an African Grey Timneh Parrot, 5 fish, 2 cats and 2 rats. Currently I own a Jungle Pastel Ball Python, Woma Python, and 2 Kenyan Sand Boa's (Anerythristic & Snow morphs). In early 2009 I will be starting my journey twords becoming a professional breeder as I plan on getting several Ball Python morphs although many won't be ready for breeding until 2011-2012. Morphs I am currently looking at getting are pairs of Mojave, (het)Pied, and Albino (in that order).

OTHER THINGS:
I am a big advocate for the legalization of Marijuana
I LOVE the NFL (Go Packers!)
I'm 27 years old (28 in less than a month)

So I will be trying to post on this at least weekly, if not close to daily.
